Jane Amanda Hill is a newsreader for the BBC, from Eastbourne Sussex. She is a main presenter for the news channel, working for BBC Weekend News, a relief anchor for BBC at One, and a currently presents BBC News at Five on Fridays.
Hill was raised in London, receiving a private education at Micklefield school in East Sussex, before going on to study Politics at Queen Mary and Westfield College. She graduated with a BA degree in 1991.
She began her journey with the BBC in 1986, working part-time for her local BBC Radio station in various paid and voluntary positions. After graduating, she worked at the Democratic National Headquarters in Washington as an assistant and researcher for Senate Democrats, before landing her first full-time position with the BBC at the end of 1991.
Prior to completion of the BBC journalism training programme, Hill became a producer for BBC Radio 5 Live during the radio station's launch. She worked there for 18 months, before making her way into television. After finishing the BBC Regional News Trainee Scheme, she went on to join South Today and BBC Radio Berkshire as a presenter, before making her way up to national news.
During her time with BBC News, she has provided coverage for a wide range of stories and events, including the local reporting for the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007. Hill led the reporting for this story and stayed in Portugal to cover all major developments. She conducted the first interview with Kate and Jerry McCann for the BBC, as well as filming a half-hour long documentary about the case at the end of that year.
At present, Hill lives with her camera operator partner, Sara Shephard, in North London.
